Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education
Dr. Mark A. Gross joined the Hempfield Area School District as Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education in August 2013. Prior to coming to Hempfield Area, he served as the Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction in the Indiana Area School District, as a secondary principal in the Somerset Area, Shade-Central City, and Berlin Brothersvalley School Districts, as a Supervisor of Special Education for Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8, and as a special education teacher in the Lancaster and York City School Districts.
He earned a Bachelor of Education Degree in Special Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Education Degree in School Administration from Western Maryland College, and a Doctor of Education Degree in School Administration and Leadership from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his public school experiences, he also serves as an adjunct faculty member for St. Francis University and California University of Pennsylvania and has been a guest lecturer; presenter at numerous local and state conferences, workshops, and graduate classes. Dr. Gross enjoys spending time with his children Alex and Alison. He is looking forward to developing positive personal and professional relationships with all members of the Hempfield Area School District community.
