The Department of Education announced on October 18, 2019, that sixty-two school districts within the Commonwealth are to receive safe schools targeted grants, with Hempfield Area being one of two districts receiving awards in Westmoreland County. The competitive grant was submitted by Dr. Lisa Maloney, Supervisor of Pupil Service, and will benefit all students of Hempfield Area School District. The maximum amount of $20,000 was awarded and will provide training to address needs related to school climate and social emotional supports. Over the next two years, school counselors and administrators will participate in six full days of training on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model to support school-wide positive behavior interventions and supports. The implementation of this program aligns with our district comprehensive goal: to implement a system that provides all students with an opportunity to cultivate self-awareness and self-management, establish and maintain relationships, and practice social problem solving to become more engaged citizens.
