Health Services
Hempfield Area School District employs six Certified School Nurses (CSN) and five professional nurses who function under the direction of the CSN to assure optimum care for all students. School Nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing designed to enhance academic success through the promotion of healthy behaviors and the monitoring of growth and development. School nurses work in close communication with parents and school staff in an attempt to encourage attendance, ensure safety, teach healthy habits, and promote an atmosphere for learning.
Certified School Nurses are delegated the responsibility to implement the Pennsylvania Mandated School Health Program.
The intent of the immunization regulations is to keep children healthy and in school and to minimize the chance of disease outbreaks which can cause death; seriously impair a child's learning ability; and cause mental and physical disability.
